The federal Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) provides transitional assistance
to both growers and bioenergy companies.
Applications for matching payments are being accepted now for the collection, harvest,
storage and transportation of eligible materials for biomass, including energy grasses
like switchgrass and sorghum, to qualified conversion facilities.
A second phase of the program expected in time for 2010 plantings will support the
establishment and production of perennials. Producers may receive payment for up
to 75% of seed and other planting costs.
BCAP (pronounced BEE-cap) is administered by the Farm Service Agency of the USDA.
See FSA for full program rules, eligibility and timelines.
