To allow more regions to participate in biofuel and biopower production, and to
give growers and processors a broader range of choices, we intend to introduce additional
energy crops in coming years.
We are developing warm-season canes selected for their biomass production rather
than their sugar production — called energycane — as well as a similar plant, called
miscanthus, that is adapted to cooler latitudes. Together, these closely related
crops offer dependable biomass yields for many climates and growing conditions.
